McALESTER, Okla. (AP) - The city of McAlester is being recognized as an Oklahoma Clean Community.
A ceremony to celebrate McAlester's new designation is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Southeast Expo Center.
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality recognizes communities for their efforts to clean up used tires, which can attract mosquitoes and rodents. DEQ pays to haul off old, unused or abandoned tires.
