CRESCENT, Okla. (AP) - An Oklahoma man is charged with murder after he reportedly told authorities he helped his severely ill wife commit suicide then staged a home invasion to try to cover it up.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says Mark Schemm first told investigators that he and his wife were attacked by two men who broke into their home Wednesday and placed plastic bags on their heads. But an affidavit alleges Schemm later admitted killing his wife, 49-year-old Monica Schemm, at her request.
The affidavit says Schemm told police that his wife went through chemotherapy for a brain tumor but later suffered another brain injury that left her disabled and in need of 24-hour care.
Schemm was charged Thursday with first-degree murder. Court records do not list an attorney for him.
