OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma Secretary of Commerce Dave Lopez has been selected as interim superintendent of Oklahoma City Public Schools and will resign his state post.
The Oklahoma City Board of Education announced Monday that the 62-year-old Lopez will resign as commerce secretary on Friday and take over as interim superintendent next Monday.
Lopez will serve as superintendent for the remainder of the school year and is not a candidate for the permanent job. The school board voted last week to hire a search firm to help find a permanent superintendent.
Current Superintendent Karl Springer recently announced his resignation - which is effective Friday.
