OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma says the nation's military is taking more than its fair share of budget cuts due to federal sequestration.

The Republican senator made the comments Tuesday to the Air Force Association, a group of active duty and retired Air Force personnel that advocates air power.

Inhofe says the military accounts for 18 percent of the federal budget, but he says it has taken 50 percent of the budget cuts. He says defending the U.S. should not be a partisan issue and accused the administration of President Barack Obama of trying to disarm the armed services.

Some civilian workers at U.S. military bases have been forced to take furloughs as part of the federal sequester. Inhofe says while some cuts are inevitable, furloughs are not.
