OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The appeal of a 20-year-old man who was sentenced to life in prison for the death of a teenager in a drive-by shooting has been rejected by an Oklahoma appeals court.
The Court of Criminal Appeals handed down the ruling Wednesday in the case of Gustavo Escareno-Guzman, who was convicted of first-degree murder in the October 2010 death of 18-year-old Christian Reyes.
Police say five or six people were standing in the garage of a house in east Tulsa when a car pulled up and passengers inside started shooting. Reyes was struck and died a short time later at a Tulsa hospital.
The ruling says Escareno-Guzman is an acknowledged gang member and that the victim was associated with a rival gang.
Defense attorney Charles Allen declined comment.
