OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A jury has found a man guilty of first-degree murder and child abuse for the death of a 3-year-old girl.
Jurors on Wednesday recommended life in prison without parole for 26-year-old Freddy Mendez.
Testimony revealed that the victim, Alexis Hawkins, was beaten, kicked and thrown to the ground. Alexis died Oct. 30, 2011.
The girl's mother, Victoria Phanhtharath, entered a guilty plea in March to enabling child abuse. She was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
The Oklahoman reports a doctor who treated Alexis testified that her body was covered in bruises.
