OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The U.S. Department of Education has announced that Oklahoma will receive a $5.5 million grant to help improve schools that are persistently identified as low performing.

The School Improvement Grants to Oklahoma and nine other states were announced Monday by Education Department Secretary Arne Duncan.

The grant is awarded to state education agencies that use the money for grants to local educational agencies that are determined to have the greatest needs and a commitment to use the funding to improve student achievement.
