TULSA, OK. (AP) - Prosecutors have charged a man with assault for a stabbing on the day after the man was released from prison.
Authorities on Tuesday filed formal charges against 57-year-old Thomas Lewis Jr. for allegedly stabbing Marquice Savage during a family gathering on Feb. 19. Police say Savage and Lewis are distant relatives.
The Tulsa World reports that Lewis is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was released from state prison on Feb. 18, where he served time for driving under the influence of alcohol. Lewis had also been convicted of first-degree murder in 1978.
He remains in the Tulsa Jail on $30,500 bail. It was unclear whether he has a lawyer.
