Oklahoma City authorities to target drunk drivers

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Authorities in the Oklahoma City area say they're planning to crack down on people who drive while intoxicated.

The Oklahoman reports a team of law enforcement officers will be out in the Oklahoma City area looking for drunk drivers on New Year's Eve.

The team is composed of officers from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the Oklahoma City Police Department, the Oklahoma County sheriff's office and the Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission.

Patrols will begin Monday at 7 p.m. and end early Tuesday.

During the New Year's Day holiday period last year, six people died in six crashes across Oklahoma, and 219 people were injured.

Of those, the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office says one death and 31 injuries were in alcohol-related crashes.
