OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma Labor Commissioner Mark Costello is closing the agency's office in Tulsa and offering its 14 employees voluntary buyouts or jobs in the agency's Oklahoma City office.

A spokeswoman for the agency, communications director Liz McNeill, said Tuesday that Costello was in Tulsa to personally break the news to members of his staff and answer their questions.

McNeill says the office is being closed to make the agency more efficient and cut costs. She says state legislative leaders have told state agencies that receive federal funds to expect funding cuts of up to 25 percent as federal officials work to cut spending. The agency began planning to close the office four months ago.

McNeill says the agency will use technology to offer the same services provided by its Tulsa staff.
