OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Officials say members of the Oklahoma City Ballet have been evacuated from an area near Colorado Springs because of ongoing wildfires in Colorado.
Ballet officials say the dancers were preparing to perform in the Green Box Arts Festival when a fire burned close enough to their location to warrant evacuation. However, the company and members of the New York-based Keigwin & Co., couldn't get to the airport because the road leading out of the area was inaccessible.
Ballet officials say festival founder Chris Keesee relocated both companies safely to Vail and put them up at a resort.
Performances by both companies have been canceled, but officials say Oklahoma City Ballet dancers have been performing free for the resort guests.
