LAWTON, Okla. (AP) - Opening statements are set in the trial of a Fort Sill soldier charged with first-degree murder in the starvation death of a 10-year-old boy at the Oklahoma Army base.
Prosecution and defense attorneys are to present opening statements Thursday in the trial of Army Pvt. Connell Williams. Twelve jurors and two alternate jurors were seated for Williams' trial at the U.S. Courthouse in Lawton on Wednesday.
Williams was indicted by a federal grand jury for the May 5, 2011, death of Marcus Holloway, the son of Williams' girlfriend, at Fort Sill. Williams and the boy's mother allegedly deprived him of food for several months until he died. She has pleaded guilty to murder.
Williams has pleaded not guilty in the case. Federal prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
