OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A rally is scheduled in support of a Cherokee Nation girl at the center of a custody dispute.
Supporters of keeping 3-year-old Veronica in Oklahoma say they are holding a rally at the Oklahoma State Capitol from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday to show support for the child, her biological father, Dusten Brown, and the Indian Child Welfare Act.
Brown is trying to maintain custody of the girl who was given up for adoption by her birth mother to Matt and Melanie Capobianco of South Carolina. The U.S. Supreme Court says Brown cannot use the Indian Child Welfare Act to press his claims. A prayer vigil was held Sunday in support of the Capobiancos.
The two sides have filed a mediation agreement in the case, but it is sealed.
