PARIS, TX -- Members of the community joined Christians in Action Monday to provide a Christmas lunch and toy drive to help make Christmas brighter for those in need in Lamar County.
The meal and toys will go to the families who need it the most this holiday season.
"It's just an amazing experience to get to come to be apart of something like this," said volunteer Tina Standifer. "To see these kids get so excited and the parents too it was a blessing for them."
About a week ago organizer Laura Reynolds said she didn't have enough toys for the event.
"I just can't imagine any child going without a toy for Christmas, so I made it made it my goal that they did have a toy.," said Reynolds.
She said she got a Christmas miracle, Toys for Tots had extra toys which they donated to ensure all the children at Christians in Action would go home with a gift.
"He was needing to give away toys and I was needing toys," said Reynolds. "By the grace of God he was able to give me over 650-brand new toys to give away to these kids."
"If kids went without a toy under the tree, there would be an unhappy Christmas, so this is the best thing that ever happened to the kids," said Paris resident Eareline Hearn.
"It's just wonderful because my granny was unable to get us something this year, so I'm just happy she had a chance to," said gift recipient Shawn.
Reynolds said a young girl came up to her, gave her a hug and thanked her for making her Christmas one she will never forget.
"That hug and the way it made me feel that's what its all about," said Reynolds.
