PARIS, TX-- The Paris City Council awarded a local construction company two major projects in town.
Bobby Smallwood Construction won the bid for the Grand theater and Safe Routes to School Projects.
The company will rebuild the roof of the theater and renovate the facade, which will be funded from money received in a lawsuit and the Leadership Lamar County Class.
The Safe Routes to school project will build sidewalks, an asphalt trail, bike lanes and school zone lighting around Justice Elementary and Crockett intermediate.
This project will be funded by TX-Dot.
The council also approved a residential tax abatement for most of the city inside the loop.
After tabling the item a few weeks ago, the council agreed to approve the original plan -- that leaves out district 6 and 7 -- and to decide in a year whether to change the ordinance or not.
Residents in the qualified area wishing to build new homes or make improvements will be exempt from taxes for five years.
