Whooping Cough case confirmed in Lamar County

LAMAR COUNTY, TX -- Health officials say Whooping Cough has made its way to Lamar County.

The Paris-Lamar County Health Department says there is one confirmed case of Whooping Cough and another possible case is being investigated by state health officials. So far officials believe this is an isolated incidence due to the confirmed and possible case being within the same family.

County Health Department Nurse, Carol Hill, says there are warning signs parents can watch out for.

"A lot of times it's just a hacking cough and then you get to coughing uncontrollably to where you think you are going to cough up your intestines, but you don't," said Hill.

Health officials say the disease is commonly passed from parent to child and are urging residents to get vaccinated.
