Holiday shopping safety tips from Paris PD

PARIS, TX -- Paris Police has a few safety tips to help holiday shoppers from being targeted by criminals.

"Don't be by yourself, keep somebody with you, go with a crowd of people shopping, stay in the lit areas, don't stay in a dark area, be sure to have your cell phone on you," said Officer Curtis Graham.

They also remind people not to carry large amounts of cash, place your purchases out of sight in your vehicle and keep your wallet in your front pocket.

Officer David Whitaker reminds everyone to be aware of their surroundings.

"That's one of the most important things you can do is just know where you're at and who is around you at all times and know that you are a potential target depending on what you are wearing sometimes or what you are doing," said Whitaker.

Additional Shopping Safety Tips:

Dress casually and comfortably.

Avoid wearing expensive jewelry.

Do not carry a purse or wallet, if possible.

Avoid overloading yourself with packages. It is important to have clear visibility and freedom of motion to avoid mishaps.
