PARIS, TX-- Paris ISD board members voted Monday night to send a resolution to the City Council, that would force businesses selling alcohol to set up shop further away from school campuses.
The board wants to increase the current distance from 300 to 1,000 feet, after a business applied for a permit to sell alcohol near Givens Elementary.
The permit for the business was not approved.
Paris ISD officials say, they want to make the change to ensure students safety.
"One of the reasons that we are taking action is to help prevent anything from happening in the future hopefully where alcohol would not be sold near any campus that PISD has," said Board President George Fisher.
Fisher hopes to address the city council at their next scheduled meeting.
