PARIS, TX -- The city of Paris' Animal Shelter will be undergoing renovations starting next week.
"The basic reason is for cleanliness and to keep the animals healthier while they're here, so we can have a chance to get them adopted out," said Services Division Lieutenant Dale Wood.
Several cracks in the floors of the kennel areas allows for bacteria to build up, even with daily cleaning.
Renovations will apply an epoxy coating on the floors, helping to prevent cracks and stop bacteria build up. The facility will also receive a fresh air exchange unit to help reduce odors in the office area.
"By doing those floors and doing what we are doing, we feel like we will keep a cleaner facility and a more acceptable facility when the public comes in to view animals they don't have to go out of here holding their nose," said Wood.
The shelter will be closed during the renovations from Friday, October 11th, at 5 PM through Wednesday, October 16th.
Cats and puppies will be moved to a warehouse at the police department. Adult animals will be with housed with Lamar County Humane Association volunteers.
