LAMAR COUNTY, TX-- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has placed Pat Mayse Lake on awareness for blue-green algae.

Lake officials say samples that were pulled from Pat Mayse showed low toxin levels, however it was just enough to prompt an awareness to the public.

At this time it poses no threat to swimmers or animals.

Officials say it would take large amounts of water ingested to make people or animals sick.

"It's exceeding what the World Health Organization says, but the toxin levels or trace are very non-detected," said Environmental Specialist Mark Boling. "We're definitely not closing beaches or anything."

Officials will continue to test the water regularly to ensure the safety of lake-goers.
