Patriot Parade honoring victims of 9/11 in Paris

PARIS, TX -- A silent parade honoring the fallen heroes and victims of 9/11 made its way through downtown Paris this morning.

The parade began at the Lamar County Fairgrounds down to the Plaza and back, consisting of local law enforcement, fire departments, EMS personnel and veterans.

Paris Resident, Debbie Daniel, says she will never forget the tragedy and how she felt on September 11, 2001.

"Well I was just waking up and I heard about they had some trouble and I wasn't sure what it was, so I got up and listened to the news." said Daniel. "It was so sad, it was just a sad day."

Paris EMS Director, Kent Klinkerman, says it's important to remember everything first responders do.

"It's crucial that we go ahead and remember and not forget what happened at 9/11 and all the first responders that gave their lives trying to save others." said Klinkerman.

Earlier this week Lamar County Commissioners and the Paris City Council both recognized September 11th as Patriot Day.

Paris' local VFW hopes to make the parade an annual event.
