PARIS, TX -- Earlier today the Paris Fire Department announced the winner of their 2013 Fire Prevention Poster Contest.
The contest, that originally started over 20-years ago, challenges fourth grade students from five Paris elementary school's to create a poster promoting fire safety and prevention.
This year Firefighters had to narrow down the nearly 500 contestants to 17 finalists.
"They go out to the schools and bring back the best posters they see and then there's an overall winner picked from those," said Paris Fire Marshall Dale Maberry. "All of those finalists get a trophy and the grand prize winner gets a badge."
This year's overall winner was Lainy Jones from Trinity Christian Academy with her Monopoly themed poster, Fire Safetyopoly.
