HOUSTON (AP) - A federal jury has convicted two men who were part of a Houston-area bank robbery ring that involved a dozen other people.
Federal prosecutors say 37-year-old Larry Smith was convicted Monday of seven counts of bank robbery while 32-year-old Raymond Tierra Johnson was found guilty of two counts of bank robbery. The jury found them guilty of other counts as well. The series of robberies all occurred in 2010.
The other men involved in the ring all previously entered guilty pleas. Smith and Johnson recruited them to assist in the robberies in exchange for a share of the stolen money. They either served as lookouts, getaway drivers or played other roles.
Smith and Johnson face 20 years in prison for each count of bank robbery, in addition to other penalties.
