EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A 17-year-old El Paso girl is recovering after falling about 15 feet into a ravine at the Hueco Tanks State Historic Site.
It took rescue crews, using ropes, several hours to extricate Lauren Isaacson from the rugged terrain after the hiking accident.
Emergency personnel strapped Isaacson into a gurney to hoist her from the ravine, and transport her to safety.
Paramedics say Isaacson did not suffer life-threatening injuries in Wednesday's accident.
Officials say the girl apparently struck a tree as tumbled into the gap, breaking her fall. Relatives who were with Isaacson had a cell phone and called 911.
The teen was transported to an El Paso hospital to be checked for bruises and back pain.
The Hueco Tanks park is about 30 miles northeast of El Paso.
