HOUSTON,TX. (AP) - Investigators say a couple found dead in the rubble of a Houston-area apartment days after a fire were not tenants.
Harris County authorities late Monday identified the pair as 40-year-old Derrick Patterson and his 35-year-old wife, Temika.
Relatives want to know why it took five days after the Feb. 15 blaze to locate the visitors.
Fire marshal's Capt. James Bolton says the Pattersons apparently were staying with a man, who did not report them missing following the blaze. Firefighters had used a list of tenants to check damaged and nearby apartments for possible victims.
Relatives of the Pattersons contacted authorities, leading to another search Monday. Cadaver dogs located the bodies.
Investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen of an elderly woman's unit.
