Abilene mom indicted in scalding of infant twins in bath

ABILENE, Texas (AP) - An Abilene woman accused of scalding her twin infants in the bathtub because one of them soiled his diaper has been indicted today.

Twenty-one-year-old Shanobia Elaine Dilligard faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of injury to a child, a first-degree felony.

A telephone number for Dilligard could immediately not be found. She has not yet been booked into jail.

The Abilene Reporter-News says the boy and girl, then 8 months old, suffered second- and third-degree burns in the March incident.

Dilligard originally told police she put her son in the bath before checking the temperature. She said she discovered the water was too hot after putting in her daughter.

Dilligard later told police she put the boy under running hot water because he had "messed up his diaper."

Child Protective Services took custody of the twins and their older sister.
