Plano woman accused of dropping daughter -- convicted

McKINNEY, Texas (AP) - A jury today convicted a Plano woman who was accused of dropping her toddler daughter from a second-story
balcony -- twice.

The jury in McKinney found 38-year-old Padmaja Enjeti guilty of attempted capital murder, aggravated assault and injury to a child.

Enjeti could face up to life in prison in the sentencing phase.

Plano police say Enjeti last Nov. 28 dropped her then-22-month-old daughter onto the first floor of her home -- and did it again while on the phone with a 911 dispatcher.

The child suffered a skull injury.

Prosecutors contend Enjeti lost her temper and tried to kill her youngster.

Attorneys for Enjeti claimed she only imagined dropping her daughter -- during a psychotic episode. A psychiatrist testified the woman was depressed and psychotic, but did not believe she tried to kill her daughter.
