Officer remains hospitalized after officer-involved shooting in Frankston

TYLER, Texas (AP) - A small-town East Texas police officer remains hospitalized in fair condition in Tyler today after a struggle with burglary suspects that left one suspect dead.

Frankston police Officer Jason Ward was airlifted to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler after the incident yesterday.

Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor says officers responding to a report of a house being burglarized just outside the Frankston city limits pursued a car that wrecked inside the city limits.

After a foot chase, Frankston officers and suspects got into an altercation. Taylor says Ward was assaulted severely and is believed to have been hit in the head. Later, the suspects encountered one of the Henderson County officers with a weapon. A suspect was shot and killed.

Frankston is a community of about 1,300, located 95 miles southeast of Dallas.
