East Texas couple jailed in death of her toddler

HENDERSON, Texas (AP) - Bond is $2 million apiece for an East Texas couple arraigned on capital murder charges over the death of her year-old daughter.

19-year-old Blaine Milam and 18-year-old Jessica Carson are jailed in Rusk County.

They were arrested Tuesday after deputies responding to a 911 call found 13-month-old Amora Bain Carson beaten.

The Tyler Morning Telegraph reports authorities said that the child was also bitten more than 20 times.

Lt. Reynold Humber said the couple told deputies the child was possessed and they were trying to rid her of demons.

A message couldn't be left at a telephone number listed for the couple's home. Officials say the pair did not yet have an attorney.

Officials said Milam and Carson told detectives they decided to hire a priest after the exorcism went badly.

Humber said there was no information on any clergy being called to the home.

The child's body has been sent to Dallas for an autopsy.
