Traffic wreck in Austin leads to return of stolen Xmas presents

AUSTIN (AP) - A traffic accident in Austin led to recovery of about $3,000 worth of Christmas presents stolen from a family.

Austin police are looking for the thief.

Melodee McIntosh says someone broke into her home Dec. 9 and swiped the wrapped presents from under the Christmas tree.

An officer took the burglary report, then later received police information about a vehicle involved in a nearby traffic accident.

Wrapped gifts were in the car, which the driver abandoned.

Those items matched the ones described by McIntosh as being
stolen.

Police recovered the presents, unwrapped them and returned them
to the family.

The wrapping paper will be checked for the supect's fingerprints. Police are also relying on witness descriptions of the man involved in the wreck.
