DNA from ear leads to Texas sex assault suspect

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - DNA testing on part of a man's ear bitten off by a woman being raped in San Antonio led to his arrest.

Thirty-year-old Daniel Martinez was jailed Wednesday on two counts of aggravated sexual assault.

A courts administrator told The Associated Press that bond was $200,000 and Martinez was in the process of being transferred to the Bexar (BAYR) County Jail. The courts official, who declined to give his name, would not provide further information on Martinez.

Police say Martinez was arrested Tuesday night, one day after warrants were issued, in an area of San Antonio he was known to frequent.

A woman assaulted in March 2008 bit off part of the attacker's earlobe, keeping it in her mouth to give to police. Police say the DNA evidence also matched a June 2005 rape.

Martinez in 2007 provided his DNA when he was serving time for cocaine possession.
