DENTON (AP) - Two college students were among three people arrested by Denton County sheriff's narcotics investigators in a drug bust outside Dallas' exclusive W Hotel.
The two women were recruited to drive a Winnebago carrying a $1 million stash of high-grade marijuana and were to be paid $15,000 each for the trip.
Denton County Sheriff's narcotics Sgt. Jeff Davis tells the Denton Record-Chronicle that the ruse is the latest ploy to try to get drug runs past law enforcement officers.
Davis says the Feb. 8 bust was tied to a series of arrests that sheriff's investigators and FBI agnets made in connection with a recent bribery case.
The two students are 28-year-old Ashley Bowerman of Colorado and 29-year-old Jody Bogumil of Grass Valley, Calif. Both are free on $50,000 bail under charges of possession of marijuana over 50 pounds-under 2,000 pounds.
