Police Shoot Man who Pointed Flashlight

WEBSTER, Texas (AP) - Police shot and wounded a man who had been
threatening caregivers with what was thought to be a gun, but turned out to be a flashlight.

Webster Police Chief Ray Smiley says the man's father brought the man to Clear Lake Medical Center late Sunday with injuries from a hit-and-run accident. He says the hospital staff went to get the injured man, but the man crawled from the car and threatened to kill them.

When he pointed the object at them, police were called and an hourlong standoff ensued. Police moved in, the man pointed the object at officers and he was shot.

Smiley says the man was in stable condition at Ben Taub General Hospital in Houston. His identity hasn't been revealed.
