CALDWELL, Texas (AP) - No injuries have been reported in a derailment in Burleson County when one train struck part of another
rolling onto a side track.
The sheriff's office says the collision early Monday, one mile north of Caldwell, involved trains operated by Fort Worth-based Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
BNSF spokesman Joe Faust said three empty trailer cars and one engine derailed. Faust told The Associated Press that two cars ended up on their sides.
Crews worked to clear the tracks.
Faust says the northbound train, headed from Pearland to San Diego, Calif., hit the southbound train that was traveling from Alliance to Pearland. The accident happened as the southbound train was moving onto a side track. An investigation is pending.
Caldwell is 65 miles northeast of Austin.
