ORANGE, Texas (AP) - A junior high school coach accused of having a sexual relationship with a student has resigned from the Southeast Texas school district.
Jennifer Burton submitted a letter of resignation Monday before the Orangefield Independent School District Board of Trustees met, the Orange Leader reported.
The 39-year-old Burton was indicted on three counts of sexual assault and three counts of improper relationship between an educator and a student. The indictment alleges the offenses happened from September to November.
Burton was a teacher and coached volleyball, basketball and track.
School officials placed her on leave in late March.
Burton was released on bail last week.
