DNA Exoneree Apology

DALLAS (AP) - The attacker in a Dallas robbery and kidnapping that sent an innocent man to prison for more than 15 years is jailed today on an unrelated crime.

Thirty-six-year-old Lemondo Simmons has expressed regret about the wrongful conviction.

Simmons last year admitted being responsible for the 1992 abduction of a Dallas couple and sexual assault of a woman.

But his confession came after the statute of limitations on the crimes had expired.

Simmons recently was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He told The Dallas Morning News he wishes Patrick Waller hadn't gone to prison for the 1992 crimes. Simmons says he's now a "Christian and remorseful."

Waller was cleared last year by DNA testing.

Waller, now a student at the University of Texas at Arlington, heard of the apology -- and says he doesn't know what to think about it.
