Swine flu lowers pomp level at college graduations

UNDATED (AP) - Colleges getting ready for graduation ceremonies are doing what they can to prevent students and guests from spreading or catching swine flu.

Cisco Junior College in West Texas canceled tonight's commencement ceremonies and plans to mail diplomas.

And Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania will hold a separate graduation Saturday for 22 students. Officials fear they were exposed to swine flu during a school trip to Mexico.

Northeastern University in Boston decided today to eliminate the traditional congratulatory handshake between deans and students. And officials asked those with flu-like symptoms to stay away from the event.
