LONGVIEW, Texas (AP) - A convicted killer and a fellow inmate facing charges over a 2008 slaying were sought after fleeing the Gregg County Jail.
Sheriff Maxey Cerliano (ser-lee-AH'-no) on Tuesday afternoon announced the escape of 27-year-old Desmond Dewayne Jackson of
Hallsville and 22-year-old Bruce Danjuane Kelly of Longview.
Jackson was convicted May 6 of the 2007 shooting death of 56-year-old Melvin Brad Mitchell during a Longview pawn shop robbery. Jackson, sentenced to life in prison, planned to appeal.
Kelly was charged over the June robbery and slaying of Monicue Stoker Jr. Kelly also faced two unrelated aggravated robbery counts.
The prisoners were discovered missing Tuesday when an inmate's
shirt was found outside the Gregg County Courthouse, which houses
part of the jail.
