Panhandle Wreck

PAMPA, Texas (AP) - A two-vehicle wreck in the Texas Panhandle left five people from Booker dead -- and one seriously hurt.

The Department of Public Safety says the accident happened yesterday afternoon when a minivan and a truck hauling oversized machinery collided about 10 miles north of Pampa.

DPS spokeswoman Tela Mange (MANJ) says the victims were in the
minivan, which crossed into oncoming traffic on State Highway 70.

Mange identified the dead as 14-year-old Aime Banvelos, 15-year-old Juan Banvelos, 46-year-old Teresa Martinez, 16-year-old Jeff Pace and 74-year-old Estafana Cortez-Rosales.

Mange says 5-year-old Celeste Espitia was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo.

The girl is in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

Mange had no details on the relationship between the victims. The truck driver was not hurt.

Booker is a town of about 1,400, located 130 miles northeast of Amarillo and near the Oklahoma border.
