TOWNSEND, Wis. (AP) - The sister of a Wisconsin man accused of
stalking singer-songwriter Jewel at her rural Texas ranch says her
brother is in need of help, but hasn't responded to the family's attempts to contact him.
Susan Richter, of Oconto, said her brother, Michael Lawrence Kozelka, hasn't had any contact with the family for nearly two years, despite their multiple efforts to reach him. In a statement, Richter said the stalking accusation has "shocked" her family. She apologized to Jewel and her husband on behalf of her brother.
Erath (EE'-rath) County sheriff's officials say Kozelka, of Townsend, was arrested last week after he went two consecutive days to the Stephenville, Texas ranch owned by Jewel's husband, rodeo champion Ty Murray. Sheriff Tommy Bryant says Kozelka told authorities he was on a mission from God.
The 50-year-old Kozelka is jailed in Stephenville on a stalking charge, a felony that carries a maximum 10-year jail sentence.
