AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - An elite search and rescue team from Texas is heading to earthquake-devastated Haiti.
Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday announced he is sending members of Texas Task Force One to assist with recovery.
Perry also wrote to President Barack Obama offering additional response teams, medical personnel, portable housing and aircraft.
The U.S. Agency for International Development is leading the U.S. response to the disaster in Haiti. Perry's office says Texas must receive federal authorization before state resources can be deployed.
