WACO, Texas (AP) - Attorneys for a minister accused of killing his wife were to start presenting his defense, a day after damning testimony from his ex-mistress.
It's unclear whether Matt Baker will testify in his murder trial in Waco. He faces up to life in prison if convicted of killing his wife Kari in 2006.
Baker was a Baptist preacher in the Waco area when his wife was
found dead, and he has maintained that she killed herself because of a deep depression.
The state's key witness, Baker's ex-mistress, testified Tuesday that he told her how he drugged his wife and pressed a pillow over her face, then typed a suicide note and rubbed her lifeless hands over the paper.
Vanessa Bulls said Baker talked of various ways to kill his wife and said he could cover it up because she had previously tried to kill herself.
