HOUSTON (AP) - A Houston man accused of shooting a 13-year-old
girl after a hit-and-run has been charged with murder.
Police say the incident started when 24-year-old Richard
Calderon's car smashed into a vehicle and then sped away. According
to police reports, the owner of the struck car chased Calderon's
car to write down the license plate number. But police say Calderon
then started pursuing that car and opened fire.
Police believe the girl was looking out the back window when she
was shot late Wednesday.
Calderon was charged Thursday. Investigators said Calderon is
licensed to carry a concealed handgun. Police say he told officers
that he thought he saw something shiny in the front-seat passenger's hand, and that's why he fired.
