Man convicted in 2008 killing of Houston officer

HOUSTON (AP) - A jury in Houston has convicted a man in the 2008
shooting death of a police officer following a traffic stop.
The life-or-death penalty phase was set for Wednesday for
29-year-old Mabry Joseph Landor III.
Jurors on Tuesday convicted Landor of capital murder in the
killing of 43-year-old Officer Timothy Abernethy.
Police say Abernethy had pulled over a vehicle for a minor
traffic violation when the driver ran away. Abernethy was chasing
Landor through an apartment complex when the lawman was shot.
Landor was on parole at the time of his arrest. His record
included convictions for burglary, DWI, drug possession and
distribution and assault with bodily injury of a family member.
Landor, whose videotaped partial confession was played in court,
took the stand Monday to deny being the person who shot Abernethy.
