HOUSTON (AP) - Houston police say a 4-year-old girl was killed
and her mother hurt when they were thrown from a spooked horse at a
Houston police spokeswoman Jodi Silva on Monday identified the
child who died as Samantha Sillero (suh-LEHR'-oh).
Silva says the girl's mother was hospitalized Monday in stable
condition. The woman's name was not immediately released.
Silva says the accident happened Sunday night as the woman and
child were on the horse in the parking lot of a riding arena where
a rodeo was taking place.
Silva says there was crowd noise, the horse panicked, reared and
threw the mother and daughter to the ground. Silva says the girl
suffered head trauma when the horse stepped on her.
Silva says animal control officers were notified to tend to the
horse, which was not injured.
