EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Investigators in El Paso are trying to
determine what sparked an apartment fire that killed a 5-year-old
boy and left his father and a sibling hurt.
Fire department spokesman Lt. Mario E. Hernandez says the father
passed out from the smoke and was pulled out of the two-story
building by firefighters.
The father was transported to University Medical Center in
Lubbock. A spokesperson for the hospital did not immediately return
a call Monday to The Associated Press with the father's condition.
His 9-year-old son was transported to an El Paso hospital. The
boy's condition was not immediately available. A 6-year-old son
escaped the flames.
Neighbor Betty Telles says she grabbed a garden hose to spray
water on the unit in an attempt to fight the fire as the man tried
to save his sons.
