Fugitive from Houston since 1992 caught in Miami
HOUSTON (AP) - A different name and a new life for a convicted
armed robber who fled Houston in 1992 led to his arrest in Florida.
Extradition was pending Thursday for 41-year-old Edwin Arnold
Rivera, who was nabbed a day earlier in Miami at a luxury car
brokerage firm where he worked.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Art Fernandez says Rivera, who had run away
from the Harris County courthouse, fled to Mexico and acquired a
Rivera, who went by Jorge Jiminez, had been sentenced in Houston
to 50 years in prison for his role in a string of armed robberies.
Fernandez says Rivera admitted his true identity when confronted
with photos Wednesday. Further details on what led to Rivera were
not immediately available.
A jailer who assisted in Rivera's escape was convicted and
sentenced to 10 years in prison.
