San Antonio officer shoots, kills burglary suspect
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A man suspected in a string of daytime burglaries has been shot and killed by a San Antonio police detective trying to arrest him.
Police Chief William McManus says the suspect was shot because he was trying to put his car in gear while revving the engine, which put a sergeant standing in front of the car in danger.
The suspect died at the scene. His name was not immediately released.
The detective was identified as Gary Mucho, a 12-year-veteran. He's been placed on administrative leave per department policy.
Police are investigating the shooting. McManus tells the San Antonio Express-News that the investigation will include looking into whether the sergeant could have moved out of the vehicle's way.
