AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Former state Sen. David Sibley wants to
retake the Texas Senate seat he held for 11 years.
But the Republican from Waco faces a Democrat and two other
Republicans in Saturday's special election. They're vying for the
seat formerly held by Republican Sen. Kip Averitt, who has
Averitt won re-election in March, even after the Republican's
January announcement that he was dropping out of the race. It was
too late to get his name off the ballot.
Gov. Rick Perry set the special election.
Democrat Gayle Avant and Republicans Brian Birdwell and Darren
Yancy also are on the ballot.
