2 South Dakota ex-cons set for execution in Texas
HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) - Kevin Varga and Billy Galloway met in prison in South Dakota. Now it appears they'll die together in a Texas prison a day apart.
Varga is set for execution Wednesday evening for the 1998 robbery and slaying of an Army officer in Greenville, in north Texas, as part of a cross-country crime spree. Galloway, who is also 41, is scheduled to die 24 hours later for the same killing.
Prosecutors say Varga, Galloway and two women left Sioux Falls, S.D., on Sept. 1, 1998, heading to Mexico.
Evidence showed they robbed and fatally beat a man in Wichita, Kan. Then they robbed and killed 37-year-old David Logie of Fayetteville, N.C., after meeting him at a motel bar in Greenville.
The four fled in Logie's car and were arrested days later in San Antonio.
